Upgrading 1994-2004 Mustang speakers with MTX Thunder components
Upgrade your 1994-2004 Mustang's sound with MTX Thunder component speakers!
In this video, I (a very enthusiastic MTX employee, but this is my personal channel!) install MTX Thunder 6x8" woofers in the rear deck of my SN95 Mustang. I'll show you the unboxing, highlight some of the cool features (like the speaker cutout template!), and walk you through the installation process, including some tips and tricks specific to the 4th gen Mustang.
This video covers removing the rear deck panels, dealing with tight spaces, and even a little sound deadening to minimize rattles. I'm using these woofers as subwoofers with my aftermarket head unit (no tweeters or crossovers in this setup!), so you'll ...

LED vs Incandescent Headlights - Have they solved the ice problem yet?
Просмотров 10628 дней назад
Those of us who live up North get sprayed with snow, sleet and whatever gets kicked up by other cars in sub-freezing temperatures and the "waste" heat that old fashioned headlights generate stops being a waste and starts being a feature. AutoONE LED headlamps partially address this by circulating the heat inside the headlamp reflector, is it enough? Let's take a look at it together with this th...

Easily one of the best OEM car stereos ever, definitely the most audacious I can't think of any other company that put a freakin amp rack in the trunk along with two separate subwoofers trading half the trunk volume for twice the sound volume. This is a brief look at the Mach 1000 audio system available in the last couple years of the New Edge, SN95 Mustang.

Terminator Cobra Control Arms - M-3075-D

This video talks about the 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra front control arms sold by Ford Racing for a little while as M-3075-D . They have a "low friction" ball joint, different durometer/hardness rear bushing and there's a rumor that they slightly increase caster and wheelbase. In this case I install those arms on a 1994 Mustang GT and drive it around to get #tacobell

Jeep Patriot - how 4WD system works. It's automatic & electronically controlled. Better to get 6 sp auto than CVT. Good all-around SUV, good in snow, not a serious off-roader. Engine may be lil underpowered for highway passing. 4WD - all wheels locked at same speed...AWD front & back axles can run at different speeds. The 4WD lever/button, manually locks 4WD on, but, it automatically disengages above 35 mph, putting it back in auto 4WD mode. 50+% of auto 4WD SUVS & small trucks use this system. It's a front wheel drive, that has a small electronically controlled (by PCM Power Control Module) clutch in the front of rear differential, that auto engages it. This clutch can pulse fast, so when you're cornering, the rear doesn't bind - lessens wear on parts, & you could leave it in 4WD & not harm anything. There's more parts in rear diff, so it gunks up diff oil quicker - must change it more often than older style rear/or open differential on conventional car. Change at every 60k miles. He explains why the 4WD clutch is put at back - makes it drive quieter. The Patriot & Compass (same), Cherokee, Libery, have different 4WD systems. Patriot is meant for general purpose - it's automatic. Not for serious off road. Can leave it on or off. MOPAR.COM - create acct, to download an owners manual, or enter VIN & get a build sheet.
I don't know how I missed this video Thank You so much for the shout out! I finally had time to sit down and look over my youtube channel
Nice looking jeep man! Would you say it has enough power for medium off road adventures? Been thinking about buying one but not sure if its adequate to go off roading
Everyone's idea of off road is different but I'm going to say no, not the right car to buy if you have the goal of adventuring in the dirt. Even if you equip it with skidplates and recovery points it just doesn't have the torque to climb steep grades or force its way across tough moguls and there's no real way to improve that aspect. If you imagine the kind of roads a Corolla could force its way through with some damage, a Patriot will cruise through those without drama or damage. Neglected forest service roads to hiking trails, snowed over rural roads and driveways.. but nothing that's got a sign that says "Jeep Trail" .
@shoveI thanks man! I really appreciate it! Will start looking into something different then, probably something with a v6
I love how those wheels look. What would be the tire size equivalent to 215/60r17 to put on those cherokee wheels? I want them on my compass 2010. Sorry 4 my English greetings from México 🇲🇽
Thanks! The closest equivalent size for 15" wheels would be 215/75R15 which is 1.8% larger diameter on the outside, or 215/70R15 which is 1.1% smaller.

👍
Nice
How much could this tow?
This exact configuration is rated to tow 9050 pounds. The highest capacity for 120" wheelbase Rams in this generation is the 2WD equipped with the Hemi and 8HP transmission and 3.92 axle gears, 9180 pounds. The lowest capacity one is 4wd, equipped with the V6 engine and 3.21 axle gears, 4770 pounds. I've towed a little over 7000 with mine, a SUV on a 2 axle flatbed trailer from Van Nuys to Phoenix and it was comfortable, good control of the trailer. Braking and power were no problem. Fuel consumption was abysmal.
You do realize this is a Jeep Patriot, right? This thing is more like a toyota corolla with a jeep sign on it than a jeep.
Thanks for the full disclosure. I'm going to use the anti rattle trick also. I was a big fan of mtx products when I was into car audio.
It's so nice to not have that rear deck trying to play its own tune back there.. just gotta do something about these dronemasters before summer driving season.
Watched a load of your videos because I suddenly got the urge for a patriot. We are lucky in Britain we have a VW or Merc diesel with 230lbft torq and a 6 speed stick. Really useful to know about the 4wd system cheers.
It's a bit funny that the variant which might do better on steep climbs is available in a country with fewer opportunities to use that. Obviously I never try to drive mine on serious trails but in the Western USA we have thousands of trailheads for hiking or sightseeing that are below the limits of a serious off-roader and above the capabilities of a purely road oriented car. The Patriot strikes a fair balance there and when I do have trouble on those routes it is always the absence of torque at the wheels, not traction or clearance.
@shoveI yeah we are pretty limited with knarly roads over here. Although in Wales and North of Scotland there are some tricky rough tracks which are good for this kind of thing. Most of our roads now look like something out the third world the number of pot holes we have!
I have the original MK74 2007 Jeep Patriot. A question - I have the tow hitch on the back corner, and it's indeed screwable in - i've used it. In your video you mention that only trail rated patriots have this? Mine is just regular "limited" version 2.4L 4WD. So, is it a older model quirk or is mine secretly a trail rated one?
I've never seen one with a threaded nut behind the stamped bumper substructure, though I have seen that in a few related cars. I have only ever looked that closely at a half dozen Patriots and all were post-refresh (2011+ ) The trail rated rear bumper cover is visually very different with a large, in-the-mold cutout through which the hook extends. The hook itself is bolted with two fasteners through the chassis rail (closest equivalent to a frame on a unibody car) and several inches lower than the bumper substructure. If yours has the threaded nut I think it's likely you could perform light recovery with it, where only a few hundred pounds of steady force is applied but I would advise against any rough recovery to avoid ambulance rides and the like.
Everything still working great? Did you install anything else (parts not listed) to make the suspension even better? Thanks for the video, I just clicked on all your links and saved the parts. My Jeep is making an awful squeak/popping noise when I drive over any bump
So far no problems with it, no noise or quality concerns except that I believe the rear cheap struts settled slightly more than the fronts did. If cost was no object I'd choose KYB or Bilstein struts instead. Also if you plan to DIY your alignment there's finally a good solution for using your phone which is better than the old alignment plates I used in this video. Look up Gyraline if that interests you.
@ awesome, thanks for the reply and the good info. I’ll look into that definitely!👍
It's either your struts or your upper and lower control arms. I just replaced all those parts on my 10 patriot along with the wheel bearings. Got rid of all the squeaks and noises. Easy way to tell is to look at the rubber bushings. Any visible wear or cracks then its time to replace.
Yeah looking at a 17 Ram for sale, sounds pretty similar to yours, its got 145,000 miles on it. But i noticed when i accelerated on test drive theres a tiny ticking noise near the engine should i be worried? Great video by the way
Is the tiny ticking sound normal when accelerating?
As far as I've been able to observe Hemi's in the process of eating their camshaft will deposit glitter in the oil. A seller might give it an oil and filter change to try to hide it of course so if the oil is fresh you might not be able to get much from that. The other prevalent tick is a broken exhaust manifold bolt which can be inspected by a mechanic or even visually with some success. If it's just a broken exhaust manifold bolt that's not an expensive fix though it will still be hundreds with labor.
Thanks for info, yeah I took in to mechanic to inspect and right away he could tell there's an exhaust leak
My patriot did the lurching thing and I also thought it was the transmission. It was the #2 coil. Also, be prepared to replace the throttle body around 100k.
Great information in the video. We just got 12” of snow and my Patriot made it around flawlessly. Just a question tho. I have a little ticking noise. I had my mechanic take a look and said I had a little cam wear but didn’t see a problem in the engine. Any thoughts?
Cam wear is pretty uncommon in these engines (assuming you're in North America and have the 2.0 or 2.4 gasoline engine) - if there's wear in those I'd be more concerned about timing chain wear. The only thing you can really do about that is be diligent about oil changes and accept that damage already done can't be undone, short of very costly replacement. Since apparent cam wear is present you can expect possible wear in the cam phasers and the cam timing solenoid which can make a noisy tick in operation especially if it's worn or sticky. If you idle a lot remember that idle time doesn't accumulate miles but it still factors into how much wear the engine and the oil experiences.
And what’s crazy is my 2wd patriot kicked ass in the snow. I didn’t even need 4wd. I miss that lil monster.
Funny i have the same seats in my foxbody and for the price they are pretty good
That wu pull is 🔥
Do HIDs work better than LEDs in cold climates?
Yes and no, they do take a moment to warm up enough to emit light when it's really cold, but never more than a second or two if they're working correctly. Lower K color temperatures like 4000-5000 emit a lot of infrared and broad spectrum light so they reflect well off wet and dry surfaces. Still not as much as incandescent but they can emit a lot more total light. Only real down sides are both the ballast and the bulb have finite lifetimes & they need to be in a projector or a reflector specifically designed for them, retrofits that just use the same incandescent reflector make a lot of glare and don't send the light down the road where you need it. When they're great they're great.
Great video. I live in the northeast US, This is why I have never changed over to LED. I also rainEx the headlights to help.
Thanks for the data. Never thought of the bulb being used to remove ice from the housing.
My patriot is a front wheel drive. Would that make a difference? I want a 235 65r17 but walmart and ebay says it won't fit. Is that just because they manufacturer doesn't recommend it? Or will it just not fit on a 2wd
I have same as you Waltmart dint want to do it either... I went to discount tires store And they got me 235 65 16... My rims is 16 not 17 But still has room So I think 236 65 17 will work too... Go to a discount tire shop or a another known tire shop... Petboys dint have that sise. .. I got 235/65/16 and has plenty of room to go a Lil bigger. ..my car is also front w/d And all stock.. Everything came out at 400 and some dollars With 40k miles warranty on the tires
@Hacunamattata heck yea, thanks for the quick reply man!
Looks like you got helped out, yep you can fit the same tires on with 2wd or 4wd. Still will want to calibrate the Jeep so your transmission, throttle body and speedometer work accurately. Have fun!
all I have to say is WTF.
The time-lapse of the drive looks awesome, some of the best looking driving time-lapse I may have seen. What camera or software did you use for that? Oh, I guess the knockoff 360.
Thanks! The first part with rain on the lens was the pretend Insta360, then switched to my phone (pixel 7) on a windshield mount , 2.7k @ 59fps, edited just for playback speed in filmora
Not sure I have ever seen a how to video on paper maps before. Great job. This video brought back so many memories of unfolding paper maps and jotting down directions before hitting the road. It's fascinating to reflect on how far navigation has come with today's technology. Did anyone else have a favorite map or atlas they relied on back in the day?
Thank you so much! This was very helpful. My husband's 1016 jeep patriot is now mine since he passed away and I am learning so much about it. We had 17 inches of snow and I really want to know the right way to use it , so your video helped me immensely. Thank you again😊

Love those rims
How do i disable the 4wd? I just don't want it.
I've never looked into doing this, but if it is possible (safely) the most likely way would be by deactivating the FDCM in JSCAN. There may be more to it than that but it's where I would start if I was trying to do that.
@shoveI thanks 😃
0:19 I’m literally watching in my v6 stang😭
Question, with the 2015 Jeep Patriot 6 spd auto. Automatic 4 Wheel Drive system, if you damage 1 tire, do you have to replace all 4 tires? I've heard that with AWD vehicles, if 1 tire blows, you must replace all 4.
As long as your replacement tire is the same size (same digits) it's fine to just replace one. There are no unrelieved components in the drive system to bind or overheat from the trivial difference in tread thickness.
@@shoveI Thank you ... I don't understand why some AWD's may need replacing all 4 tires to keep a "perfect spec", but it is an excessive waste IMO. This is consumer, we aren't NASCAR driving.
continued... uses software to control the traction, 4wd. also has a switch to lock in 4wd rear wheels - via electronically activated clutch thats in the rear differential unit. 9:42 Off road pkg also had a steel skid plate option. The 2014 & newer 4WD vehicles w std 6 spd auto (not Freedom Drive 2. 173 hp, plenty of power for hills, tho not performance. At 6'1", can sleep in it. BLD - brake lock differential system (the 4wd lock?) . Interior lil cheap - plastic cracks. Review fr 4 ya.
2015 Jeep Patriot 2.4L engine developed with Mitsubishi & Hyundai... 6 spd Auto Hyundai manufactured trans (manual 5sp avail til 2016), Standard CVT avail on fwd or 4wd 2007-2013, thru entire run the off-road or tow model had a difft CVT w a lower initial gear ratio, 2014-2017 the 4WD cars that didn not have Freedom Drive had a standard 6 spd auto trans. The 4WD, thru entire run, is an automatic 4WD system, not an AWD system. It's largely a fwd car, until it detects some slip, then it sends power to back wheels.
How many miles have you put on it.
You!! You are my hero
"Halfway through a fart and yawn" describes the stock 3.8 to an absolute T that is so fucking funny
Very nice modification I love my jeep patriot I have 1 Question for you can I put on 235x65x17 on my patriot FWD
Yep, 235/65R17 fits great, depending on your wheels. You'll want to use JSCAN to recalibrate the Jeep for the new tire size that not only keeps your speedometer accurate it also makes sure the electronic throttle and the transmission are working their best with the actual speed you're moving.
Thanks for the info again love your jeep
Hey thank you for letting me know that 4wd system doesn't work over 35 mph. And that matters because some people don't know this and are driving fast because of a false sense of safety when they need to slow down probably. ❤
Definitely a better look. I’ll be doing the same. Will a taillight harness convertor be necessary? Thank you.
They drop right in, same body harness connector. They do use different bulbs, so shop bulbs for a 94/95 if you're replacing them. Also be aware that the cruise control on SN95's uses the brake lamp filament as a validator for going into cruise so if you put in LED bulbs your cruise will stop working. There's a workaround but the easiest workaround is just regular bulbs. You can use LEDs in the reversing lamps.
Does the 235/75r15 fit in the spare tire hole?
Unfortunately no, the spare tire well is a bit shallow for the full width of the tire (235 is a bit over 9" and the sidewalls bulge to over 10" ) and even if you deflate the tire there just isn't room to smash it down there and keep the load surface in place. Your options would be to either keep the OE spare, which is smaller and will make traction control/ABS go into failure mode while you're using it but should get you home if you're not way out in the bush, or put a fullsize spare on top of the load surface (strap it down to reduce danger if you're in a collision), or you could get a 17" spare wheel from another vehicle and mount a 165/90R17 temporary spare on that which is about the same diameter as a mounted 235/75R15 just skinny. I can't guarantee it but I am reasonably confident that would fit under the cover if you trim the liner blanket a little.
It's funny....he says it's a relatively narrow vehicle. But I've never owned a SUV before and when I get in my Patriot it seems huge to me. I know....I know.....when I see other Patriots on the road they seem smallish compared to these gigantic trucks and gigantic SUVs out there. But again.....I've never owned an SUV before so it seems huge to me as I sit in it. Honestly I can't get over all these super expensive, gigantic SUVs. How can they FEED the things? And honestly.....$70,000 for a pickup truck? Somebody saw that guy coming. In my opinion that's just nuts. I think I paid $25,000 for my 2017 Patriot.
Hi great video 👍 I have a quick question, so my Patroit is a2013. I upped the tyres to a more bulky size. Both back and front are 17” but back is more bulker then front. Drove it for 2 years no problems. Then boom the car started make so noise like a bearing that are about to go. What to the dealer they replaced the transfer case. 6months down the line the noise come back. Car has been standing for month now. Any ideas? Thought of replacing the input shaft bearing…
The 4WD system on these cars cannot accommodate different tire sizes front and rear, so if your rear tires are larger then that is going to damage the car. You'll probably have to diagnose the specific part that is failing rather than firing the parts cannon at it, but if you do repair it also make sure all four tires are exactly the same measurements.
Extremely informative video about our Jeep Patriots. Wow !
2:54 It's hard to believe that drive shaft isn't connected to the rear with a universal joint. Just watched a video about a Toyota Sienna and it has a universal joint in back.
So basically never buy a Jeep...... What garbage 😂🎉
What serise Magnaflow catalytic converter did you put on your wife car? I like that sound! I want to put a aftermaket system on my 02 Mustang that has a low pitch sound . The Magnaflow is the sound I'm going for.
The catalytic converters are still the stock ones. Her car has Pacesetter short headers # 70-1077 and the Magnaflow # 15717 dual exhaust, but the midpipe with the catalytic converters is still stock.
Lol funny. My Patriot just started jiggling at 76k. I thought it was the engine mounts. Mechanic said it is the valve in the torque converter.
Good to know that im not the only one with those problems
